Yuma, Prescott top list of good places to start a business

Inc. magazine has released its list of the top cities in which to start a business, and Yuma and Prescott are ranked second and third, respectively.

The two Arizona cities come behind top-ranked St. George, Utah. The other seven cities rounding out the top 10 metropolitan areas are:

4. Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Fla.

5. McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas

6. Naples-Marco Island, Fla.

7. Las Vegas-Paradise, Nev.

8. Sarasota-Bradenton-Venice, Fla.

9. Morgantown, W.V.

10. Bend, Ore.



Inc., which used Bureau of Labor Statistics data for research, selected the cities based on employment growth rates for current and prior years.

Yuma and Prescott are not the only Arizona cities to make Inc.'s list, which includes 393 metropolitan areas. The Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale metropolitan area came ranks 14th, Tucsonranks 52nd and Flagstaffranks 73rd.

Inc. also broke its full list down into top 20 lists for large, medium and small cities.

The Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale area ranks 2nd on the large cities list, which includes metropolitan areas with an employment base of 450,000 or more.

Tucson ranks 12th on the medium cities list, which pertains to cities with an employment base between 150,000 and 449,999 workers.

Yuma and Prescott captured the second and third spots, respectively, on the small cities list, which includes metro areas with an employment base of 150,000 or less.
